FRICO 2025

The 28th Workshop on

Future Research in Combinatorial Optimization

taking place from August 4th to August 6th, 2025 at the RWTH Aachen University, Germany.

FRICO is directed at PhD students from the following research areas:

  • Discrete Mathematics and Combinatorics
  • Approximation Algorithms
  • (Mixed Integer) Linear and Non-Linear Optimization
  • Applications of Combinatorial Optimization
  • Scheduling
  • Randomized Algorithms
  • Online Optimization

Every participant will be assigned a slot; either for a 20-minute presentation (excluding 5 minutes for setup and questions), or a 5-minute elevator pitch talk. It is especially encouraged to present ongoing research and open problems.

To get a general impression of FRICO, visit the webpage of FRICO 2024, which took place in Magdeburg, or have a look at the history of FRICO. If you have any questions, please contact any of the organizers or write an email to frico@rwth-aachen.de.

FRICO 2025 does not have a conference fee!
This is made possible by our sponsors.

Invited Speaker

This year, we decided to invite a speaker to give a talk on a topic related to combinatorial optimization. The goal is to inspire the participants and provide insights into current research trends in the field, but also to demonstrate an example of a good presentation of scientific work. We are excited to announce that Prof. Dr. Jannik Matuschke will be our invited speaker at FRICO 2025.

Jannik Matuschke is an Associate Professor of Operations Management at KU Leuven's Department of Decision Sciences and Information Management. His research focuses on combinatorial optimization, algorithm design, game theory, and applications in logistics and production. He earned his PhD in Mathematics from TU Berlin in 2013 and has held positions at institutions including Technische Universität München, the University of Rome "Tor Vergata," and Universidad de Chile.

Sponsors

We thank this year's sponsors for their support.

During the 'industry session' on Tuesday the sponsors will inform us about practical application of combinatorial optimization in their companies. After the industry talks, there will be an opportunity to ask questions and discuss with the representatives of the companies in a poster session. For more information, refer to the program.
